Earlier she had left the NDA twice to woo the minority votes. Originally of Congress culture, last time she found the Congress as a natural ally of the Trinamool Congress and forged an electoral alliance which gave the ruling Left Front a shocking blow and an encouraging respose both to Mamta and Sonia Gandhi.The latest development indicates that in order to further widen the area of her support,she is playing a new political game to woo the Maoists. It has badly shaken the party in power (CPM) as well as the BJP.

A few days back she addressed a huge rally in the stronghold of the Maoists and demanded that there should be an independent enquiry into the death of the extremist leader Azad. She thought that the same might be a case of staged killing by the security personnel. In order to win extremists’ sympathy, she also criticized the UPA Government at the centre adopting strong arm tactics against the Naxalites. The audience clapped repeatedly in her appreciation. However, the political observers are of the opinion that the massive response to the meeting and its peaceful conclusion could not have been possible without the willing support of the Left extremists. Today in the phase of commandeered crowds, such an encouraging popular support has righty disturbed the CPM leaders.
An unfortunate incident gave an ugly turn to these political activities. While returning to Kolkata after addressing the rally,a truck hit Mamta’s car and she sustained injuries causing pain in her chest and head. She was given primary treatment in a hospital after which she returned to her residence for convalescing. Accordingly,the Trinamool Congress submitted a written complaint to the Prime Minister and the Central Home Minister,charging that the CPM had plotted to eliminate her.The Centre immediately came in action and assured adequate security for the Railway Minister.The driver of the truck,Gurjan Singh was arrested and his vehicle is undergoing forensic test. The police is closely checking if the truck had any device to kill somebody.The people at large feel highly annoyed and the popularity graph of the Didi is mounting so fast that her commitment to root out the CPM rule in the 2011 Assembly polls ,appears possible.This latest change of Mamta’s political colour is likely to make the electoral contest between the Left Front and the alliance of acongress/Trinamool Congress,internally supported by the sleeping Maoists. The politicians of the country as well as general educated people are eagerly waiting for the outcome of the coming eventful election.
